The Renaissance style is marked by Italian influence and the contributions of Antiquity. Breaking away from medieval tradition, Renaissance frames can borrow decorations, simple or sophisticated, often inspired by ancient architectural orders or flamboyant Gothic: pediments, columns or entablatures, leaf foliage, bird pinnae, pearls, canals ... In Europe from the North, during the Renaissance, simple and straight geometrical shapes dominate, on a background of blackened wood, sometimes enhanced with a linear decoration of scales. Dutch Renaissance frames regularly have an inverted profile.
