Barbizon

Taking the name of the colony of landscape painters established on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest between 1825 and 1875 to paint in the open air, drawing their inspiration from a realistic nature (Corot, Daubigny, Millet, Rousseau), the so-called "Barbizon" frames have a wide golden wood profile. The depth is given by superimposed levels in cascade, whose moldings are decorated with friezes loaded with oak leaves or acanthus leaves, often decorated with knots, in the syncretic taste of the Napoleon III style. The gilding is vibrant, highlighting the dark greens that Barbizon painters loved.
