Louis XV

The Louis XV style, otherwise known as "Rocaille" or "Rococo", is characterized by its exuberance. The plant becomes the basic ornamental reference, overflowing the frame in scalloped, openwork and curved shapes. Willingly asymmetrical, adorned with a decoration of shells, palmettes, arabesques, foliage scrolls, acanthus leaves, untidy bouquets, unruly ... the Louis XV style frame mostly adopts very cut and expansive shapes. An excess that borders on extravagance. The Rocaille ornament, which flourished in the first half of the 18th century, is defined as follows: "Most often asymmetrical ornament, combining curve and counter-curve. It has jagged edges, an often concave surface, regrooved and animated with ribs, ribs evoking the foliage or seashell ”.
